A Little About Your Teacher...

Mrs. Swoyer

4th Grade GATE

Newington Elementary

Greetings to parents and students!

Here’s the scoop on your teacher…

History

This is my second year at NES and my 19th year in DD2.  I began at Givhans Elementary and was there for 7 years where I was selected Teacher of the Year in 1997.  I moved on to Knightsville Elementary for 2 years.  I then went to Oakbrook Elementary for 8 years.  I taught 4th grade for 18 years up until last year where I began teaching 3rd grade GATE in addition to 4th grade GATE.

Educational/Professional Background

I graduated from the College of Charleston with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education.  I then earned my Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the Citadel’s Graduate Program.  I went on to get +30 hours above my Masters Degree.  I am Gifted and Talented endorsed and National Board certified in the area of Middle Childhood/Generalist.

Personal Information

My family and I live in Goose Creek where I have been since I was 6 years old.  My husband, Jeff, works at Santee Cooper. We have a 20 year-old  named Aaron, who is in his third year at CSU.  He wants to go into law enforcement.  Our youngest, Mason, is 5 years old. He is in Kindergarten this year at NES.  Mason wants to be a logger when he grows up.

We spend a lot of time outdoors.  We hunt a lot and love to ride

4-wheelers and walk in the woods.  Mason’s first duck hunt was when he was 2 years old.  Duck hunting is my favorite.  I’ve trained my Labrador Retriever, Cutter, to duck hunt and love to watch him work.

I like to read when I have the time.  I try to keep up with the latest children’s literature but love FBI thrillers by Catherine Coulter. Nicholas Sparks is a favorite of mine, too.

My favorite color is green, my favorite food is macaroni and cheese, and my favorite sweet treat is anything chocolate!

I hope you enjoyed these tidbits.  If you’d like to know anything else, just ask me.
